Still In Motion, curated by Vishal Shah, selects single screen video works by four artists, brought together by their particular relationship to the still in motion. The collected videos all use an element of a still; be it a still image, a stationary camera, or a still place. Each video interplays between what is considered to be still and what is actually presented to the viewer in motion. Our understanding of both elements is being dynamically questioned and projected to the viewer. The selected artists all live and work in London, and have exhibited internationally.

Ailbhe Ni Bhriain's piece 'Immergence' questions the relationship between place and the moving image. The camera remains still throughout; what is actually recorded is a drawing in motion, a fundamental part to the production of her video.

In 'Seek Assistance' Vishal Shah exploits a halftone image; the process used in print to reproduce an image with continuous tone is sequenced to create a series of still moving images, which is printed / projected by light onto a subject.

'I Wonder If You Wonder' by Renata Kudlacek is a work about memory and imagination, projection and reflection. Renata brings into play a photographic image projected onto a moving body. The relationship of motion and the still has been reversed. The screen moves and the image is still.

Kirk Palmer's film 'State' is a single shot, but the entire length of a roll of Super-8 film. Both the landscape and vignette are still, and only the hand-held camerawork and the flight of the birds are in motion.
